Updating eighties kitchen

I love working on this blog, posting pictures, writing articles and basically fluffing everything up to make it pretty.

What I don’t enjoy is the backend technical stuff and it seems that’s all I’ve been dealing with this week!

Rate My Space contributor Suzy Q8284's dramatic room reinvention included refinishing the hardwood floor, installing new cabinetry, and updates to the lighting, tile and countertop. This homeowner updated the look of her 15-year-old Sub-Zero refrigerator by installing a stainless steel cover.

Rate My Space contributor young2by2's new-and-improved kitchen space includes a freezer and refrigerator, a five-burner induction cooktop, a 10-inch-deep stainless-steel kitchen sink, Caesar Stone countertops and a stainless steel dishwasher.

Their kitchen before the remodel was hopelessly stuck in the eighties with outdated light fixtures, warm brown cabinets, mauve countertops, and a particularly dated linoleum floor. With the addition of simple modern cabinets from IKEA, Laura and Jason brought their kitchen into the 21st century.

In addition to gutting the room, they also knocked down a wall to both give them more space and make the kitchen and living area one big room.

We had to use a smaller piece in order for it to fit, but can you imagine what an impact crown would have if you have taller ceilings that can handle a larger, more dramatic piece?

Rate My Space contributor Rickand Kristina accomplished a French-country makeover by hand-painting and glazing the cabinets, adding crown and picture molding to the cabinetry, installing recessed and under-cabinet lighting and designing a unique ceramic-tile layout.I promise I will write up a detailed budget breakdown in the future. This modern kitchen remodel features black cabinetry, sleek surfaces, hardwood and tiled floors, recessed lighting and a custom stone wall to provide a rich wine-cellar feel. By knocking down the narrow wall, removing upper cabinets and installing skylights, a concrete countertop and glass-etile backsplash, Rate My Space contributor Anne Bub achieved her dream kitchen makeover. When a two-bedroom, 1952 red brick ranch in a fantastic neighborhood came on the market, I jumped at the chance to take a look. The house had belonged to a local family for nearly 50 years, but had been a rental for about half that time before sitting empty for two years.
